A Summer Venue/Medical Camp in Kashmir
Located in the Himalayan mountains in the northernmost part of India, Kashmir is indeed a region of extraordinary natural beauty and climate. But due to political violence and terrorism, Kashmir is now a home to thousands of orphans, who continue to be vulnerable to worst forms of violence, particularly the young girls. There are over 100,000 orphans in Kashmir since the separatist conflicts began.
We are inviting people including medical doctors, health professionals and volunteers to participate in the venue / medical camp "International Rescue Initiative Program" (IRIP), to rescue/rahabilitate young children (1-15 years old) especially girls, orphaned or suffering from mental trauma or history of abuse (physical/mental) in terrorist affected locations in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The goal of this initiative is to work out strategic workforce towards rehabilitation of such children especially girls, who unlike boys are massively rejected by their relatives, and give them a safe and secure environment where they can re-discover their identity and self-esteem. Unlike other rehabilitation programs, our motivation is not only to provide them with medical care but also give them a family where they can build their own lives with dignity and love.
We would appreciate if more people could come forward in whatever ways possible such as by offering medical services (in case you are a doctor, or a health professional), strategy planning, web and pamphlet designing, volunteering to be one among us in the medical camp, or in initiating regional or national chapters in their respective state or country in awareness and fund-raising campaigns. If you are interested, please send your letter of motivation, area of expertise in which you would like to contribute, along with contact details to the following mail IDs fellowships@cnrf.org / Sbhaskar@cnrf.org.
Cajal Neuro-Research Foundation: Connecting Ramón y Cajal’s legacy to people
The Cajal Neuro-Research Foundation (CNRF) http://www.cnrf.org/ came into existence in 2005, with the support of young neuroscientists, neurologists, surgeons, psychologists and health professionals from Mumbai and other parts of the world. Today CNRF is a registered foundation under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, Government of India. Besides activities in India, CNRF counts with international collaborations in United States, Brazil, South Africa and Spain.
Our goal is to translate cutting-edge research into innovative and compassionate care for patients with neurological, psychiatric and psychological disorders. Specifically, to build a centre of excellence of research in Psychiatry, Neurosurgery and Clinical Neurosciences, based in Mumbai, India, whereby to provide a high quality clinical service to the people of India and South Asian subcontinent, and to foster an academic environment of relevant teaching and research. We are dedicated to helping patients recognize their mental strengths and abilities through confidence building, empowerment, and technical assistance.
The aspiration has been to connect the legacy of Dr. Santiago Ramón y Cajal, one of the greatest scientists world has ever produced, and one of the most socially conscious, to meet mental health needs of the poorest people. In particular, CNRF focuses on providing advanced and basic health services to the people of the developing world, especially South Asia. With proper facilities, patients will no longer have to travel outside of the subcontinent to access and meet their healthcare needs --and the poorest patients will have a hope.
